Adult Sunday School

A New Season of Sunday School begins in September

Familiar Favorites
Basic Christianity - Library. Ideal for people who are interested in what the Lutheran Church teaches and believes. Pastor Ray teaches and leads the class through the basic tenants of Christianity. Seasoned Lutherans, experienced Christians, and interested bystanders who are either a congregational member or not are welcome to join in on the discussion. Lead by Pastor Ray.

Contemporary Issues - Classroom 5. Join in on the discussion as we seek a Christian response to the many complex cultural and social issues of our time. Christ is our anchor in these turbulent times. Facilitated by Bill Anderson.

Faith Lessons - Fellowship Hall. Experience the Bible in historical context. Discover the mission that can give your life - and the lives of those around you. A study by renowned teacher and historian Ray Vander Laan. Taught by Tom Cox.

Pericopes - Classroom 4. Dive deeper into the weekly Scripture readings used in the worship service and mine the riches of the pericopes. Facilitated by Ross Binkley.

New Topics
Shorter Books & Letters of the Bible - Youth Room. The purpose of the Bible is to point us to Christ Jesus. This study will take a closer look at those biblical books and letters that lack the verbosity of the others. The new quarter starts with a look at the book of Hosea. Lead by Family Life Minister Curtis.

Worldview (re)Forging - Classroom 3. A group discussion guided by the topics addressed by LCMS Pastor Fisk (and others) through the Worldview Everlasting Youtube channel. Rev Fisk is also the author of Broken 7: “Christian” Rules that Every Christian Ought to Break as Often as Possible. Facilitated by Noah Kerstein

Children's Sunday School

Today in Sunday School, the children will complete their study of how God worked in Joseph’s life. “Joseph Forgives” and reveals himself to his brothers, telling them that though they meant evil, God used their acts for good. Our Lord Jesus Christ reveals Himself to us and forgives us in His Holy Word and Sacraments. Families could discuss, “How was God with Joseph, blessing him through all that happened, the good and the bad? How has God turned bad or evil things in your life or world into blessings for your good?”

Welcome First Time Attenders!

We are happy that you are here to worship with us this morning. Please join us for coffee in the Narthex after the service so that we have an opportunity to meet you and answer any questions you may have about our church.

Altar Flowers

Flowers are given to the glory of God by the Hofmans in honor of Joshua’s birthday, and by Diane & Glen Beck in celebration of Nicole and JP LeMaster’s 1st wedding anniversary.

5th Sunday Breakfast

Outreach Thought

Ever wonder the what the difference is between an agnostic and an atheist? AGNOSTIC -- a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God or of anything beyond material phenomena; a person who claims neither faith nor disbelief in God. ATHEIST -- a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods.

Life Quote

“Are you afraid of commitment and ‘belonging’ to other people? Relax. It’s how your Creator designed you. When you call a sick friend, send a card, congratulate an achiever, encourage a drooper, pursue a stray, or teach a child, you will feel a satisfaction in your heart that not even the devil can steal.” Rev. Mark Jeske, Time of Grace – A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life • www.lutheransforlife.org

24toDouble

Sessions will be shown the 2nd Sunday of the month during the Sunday School Hour starting at 9:15 AM–10:30 AM in the Fellowship Hall.

Confirmation

Confirmation is a lifelong Christian education and relational experience, within the congregation, that began when you came to faith in Jesus Christ. It is also a deeply held Lutheran tradition of formal classroom instruction. Our approach at Good Shepherd is to have two years of focused instruction (Sept-May) beginning in the 8th grade school year. The 8th grade classroom time is Wednesdays (6:30-8:00 PM) starting September 12th in the Youth Room. The 9th grade classroom is 5:00-6:30 PM. For more information, speak with Family Life Minister Curtis.

LCMS Youth Gathering

LCMS Youth Gathering (July 11-15, 2019 - Minneapolis, MN) : Registration for the gathering is October 17th. A commitment to attending is needed by October 15th. Our parent meeting for the Gathering will be September 30th during the Youth Group. The gathering theme is rooted in Psalms 46: “Real. Present. God.”

Staffed Nursery

A STAFFED NURSERY is available to care for your young children during both services, including the Sunday school hour. There is also a CRY ROOM with sound and a window into the Sanctuary.

Prayer Cards

PRAYER CARDS are located on the table as you enter the Sanctuary (under the iron shepherd). If you have a prayer request, please complete a card and place it in the PRAYER REQUEST box.
