Brown Church Worker Scholarship

 

Purpose

The purpose of the Brown Scholarship Fund is to aid members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod who are preparing for service as a rostered LCMS professional church worker (i.e. pastor, teacher, DCE, DCO, FLM, deaconess).

Eligibility

Applicants will be considered in regard to character, talents, lead- ership and scholastic standing, as well as exhibiting a caring and loving attitude. Recipients must be a full time student and main "C" average, or the minimum to graduate and work in their in- tended area. Financial need will be a factor in scholarship amounts awarded.

 The scholarships are available only to communicant members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and will be made available in the following order of preference:
  • Members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Shalimar, Florida.
  • Members of Lutheran churches Missouri Synod of Northwest Florida.
  • Members of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod at large.

HISTORY

 

The Brown Scholarship Fund began in 1987 by Herb Brown following the death of his wife. He set up the fund in her memory to specifically to help students who demonstrate "caring and loving attitude" as they prepare for church work. Herb subsequently passed away in December of 1989.

The fund is a private endowed, that is administer by a committee who are made up of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church members.
